last week; a life so packed i felt like i was going to capsize. nightly trips to hotel hell; once for a flooding ceiling, once for a circuit breaker blown by a room full of preening girls and their hairdryers. last night, newleyweds stranded outside their room when their key didn't work, incongruous in their wedding finery at my sandy beach resort. at home, joseph and mary firmly entrenched on my sun porch, still waiting for cougar, timing false contractions and living on fast food. they gripe at each other, reminding me why i'm divorced. he hates the way she makes top ramen, she resents his ability to escape to a part time job. i resent their ingratitude.

on the bright side, kisses from patrick, springsteen tickets, and today, the french festival in santa barbara with richard. a yearly event for me, it's like christmas without gifts, with poodles instead of reindeer, and in lieu of carols, edith piaf on the loudspeaker, singing la vie en rose.
