richard has decided, based on my diary entries, that lately i am less 50ft woman and more bette davis in now voyager. for those of us unschooled in richard-cinema-speak, this means less self-assured and more self-sacrificing. okay, so she's a lonely, blossoming wallflower. and he's married, with children. richard probably expects me to be insulted, but when i think of bette's luminous, smoldering look when she accepts paul henreid's extra cigarette, it's tough to be hurt. and though i don't smolder and patrick doesn't smoke, we often have moments of real-life magic, most of them documented here.
