to which i replied; our relationship is unconventional, but it doesn't mean i'm settling for you. i choose to be with you. it's a conscious choice.
then, to reinforce my point, i broke a strict 50-foot-woman rule and told him about turning down a new guy at work who asked me out to shoot pool. and despite his love for me, despite his generous concern for my well being, patrick bristled like a pit bull. it was fucking endearing.
i don't know how to shoot pool, i added, but if i'm going to learn, it's going to be with you.
