at the lake today, patrick decided he wanted insight into my ugly past. he picked at the bob scab until it bled. now he knows what it's like to be strangled until you pass out and piss your pants. he learned no amount of makeup can hide a human bite. he realizes you can be intentionally run over by a vehicle and survive. he understands how a battered woman can live within the cycle of domestic violence and find it normal.
once upon a time, he would've told me to get over it. today patrick learned that some ghosts haunt you forever, no matter how many times you move.
on the bright side, he's learning to appreciate fresh mozzarella.
